Matt studied classical piano with me at Mt. Hood Community College, performing the works of Chopin, Mozart, and Bach, among others. He also participated in the weekly jazz jams held on campus. His grasp of how music was composed, and his understanding of a wide variety of musical elements, led to his graduation from Univ. of Oregon with a Masters Degree in Music Theory. Congratulations!
When Steve Aho was in high school, back in the 90's sometime, he studied vibes with me, as well as various other percussion instruments from other pros in the area. He won a scholarship in music to Indiana U., got his Masters degree from Miami U., went on the road with Englebert Humperdink, and has been building a career in Los Angeles. He was recently seen on TV, playing tympani behind Adele as she sang Skyfall at the Oscar Awards ceremony. Congratulations, Steve!
Alicia Baker graduated this year (2013) with a Bachelors in Music Degree in voice and piano. Not only is she a talented classical and jazz musician, she is also an award winning accordionist, and is a Roland artist, representing their latest line of MIDI accordions. She, and her sister Emily - also a music teacher in the Portland area - were piano students of mine. Congrats, Alicia, on your degree.
This is my jazz combo at Willamette University, Salem, OR. L to R: Thomas Shipley, Matt Sazima, Harris Long, Connor Joste, and Jarrett Tracy. They are all very creative musicians, experienced in recording, gigging, writing and arranging.
